Glycine Combat SUB in2watches.com world exclusive edition

As mentioned a few posts before, in2watches.com will introduce a world exclusive edition of the popular Glycine Combat SUB sports watch.

Combat SUB st brown

I decided that the casing should be stainless steel, the dial and turning bezel dark brown, the printing rose gold, the crystal sapphire and there will be two straps and a strap changing tool to complete the package.

Combat SUB pvd black

The thing which I wasn’t sure about was the material of the turning bezel. Should this be stainless steel as well (to match the casing) or should this be rose gold pvd (to match the printing on the bezels inlay and the dial)? So I had two prototypes produced, which arrived last weekend.

Combat SUB st black

To be honest, this wasn’t very helpful; I like them both equally… The stainless steel bezel looks a bit more ‘toolish’ however the rose gold pvd bezel sports a little more flair. It’ll cost a € 50,= more as well however. I really don’t know what to choose at the moment; any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Combat SUB pvd brown

One thing I was convinced about were the straps. The dark brown vintage-like leather strap is beautiful and will certainly stay. The black textile strap suits both versions as well, however the strap I choose seemed leather lined on the inside, and so is not suitable for use in water. Thus I’ll replace this strap by a black rubber strap – a sports watch should at least be able to make suitable for swimming in my opinion.

A complete picture series, with all versions seen from different angles can be seen here: Glycine Combat SUB in2wacthes.com limited

Great-looking watch, I vote stainless steel for the bezel.

  2. Cory on May 31, 2012 at 08:09

Really like the rose gold version and really considering being a buyer on this watch.
What’s the price point looking like?

  3. Gerard Nijenbrinks on May 31, 2012 at 08:16

Hi Cory, thanks for your reply.

The final price will depend on the final execution of strap-set (vintage brown leather and black textile/leather or black rubber) and bezel type (stainless steel or rose gold pvd).

As it looks now it will be the stainless steel bezel and vintage brown leather with black rubber strap. In that case we’ll try to keep the price below € 800,=.

      Gerard,

Normally i don’t like Rolex a like watches (divers, but i really like this one.

      You named the price of this nice watch, but what about a release date;
Any clue yet, when this nice watch hits the marked. This year, next year ?

      Thx for answering.

      Gr,

      Ron.

      • Gerard Nijenbrinks on June 1, 2012 at 16:21

        Hi Ron,

Thank you for your message and kind words. In my opinion as well it’s a really attractive watch. I’m wearing the prototype for some days now and don’t want to take it off; which is a good sign for me ;-)

I’m expecting to have them available in July this year already, but it will depend a bit on the production capacity of the manufacturer. I’ll keep you posted.

        Best regards,

        Gerard

        • Ron (forum name; SillentWolf) on June 1, 2012 at 20:19

          Hi Gerard,

          Thanks for the reply.

          July ? That’s quick.
I hope it would take a month or 3 a 4 more to produce :P.
I really like the watch, but i have some other costs in July.
(belasting-dienst, daar word je niet vrolijk van ;) )

But i appreciate that you will keep me updated, about the watch.

          Best regards,

          Ron.

    • Florian on June 11, 2012 at 11:49

Stainless steel bezel, vintage brown leather and black rubber strap – this will be EXACTLY the version I’d like to see an buy :-)

The only thing I would change if possible would be a domed sapphire glas instead of the flat one – this would give even more vintage feeling! I know this is also a price point, but maybe there is a possibility with Glycine?

And do you know if it would be possible to buy a matching stainless steel bracelet from Glycine for this special watch (I think the “normal” Sub bracelets must fit?)?

When will this watch be available and where to order? Will be a limited version?

Great Project anyway – keep on going! :-)

      • Florian on June 11, 2012 at 18:01

Or maybe domed plexiglas would be an option?

Anyway, this will be a great watch! :-)

  4. Gerard Nijenbrinks on June 2, 2012 at 14:15

Thank you all for your considerations (here on in2watches and on Facebook).

It will be the version with stainless steel bezel. The extra supplied black textile strap with leather lining will be replaced by a real rubber one, so that the watch can actually be used for sports and swimming as it is intended for.

Of course the beautiful dark brown vintage-like leather strap will remain fitted as standard. A strap changing tool will be supplied to complete the set.

    • Ron (forum name; SillentWolf) on June 2, 2012 at 14:41

      Hi Gerard,

      No problem ;)

It all sounds really great. and i think it’s a good choice that you choose the steel bezel. Although to bad that you don’t gonna use the textile strap, but; i can imagine why you choose this road. Just as you said; the rubber strap can be used for sports and swimming. So i understand that.
The leather strap is really nice though. It completes the watch nicely, in my opinion.
And a changing tool, comes always in hand.

Al together; it’s a really nice package you got there.
A very nice watch, great straps and a nice tool. ;)

      • Gerard Nijenbrinks on June 2, 2012 at 14:53

        Thanks Ron,

Just a note; the black textile/leather-lined strap will be available, however not as part of the standard package of this watch.

        Cheers,

        Gerard

        • Ron (forum name; SillentWolf) on June 2, 2012 at 21:04

          Hi Gerard,

          Thanks for the reply

That is some good news to hear.
In that way (if people wish or want); you can change to three
different straps, that all looks great on the watch.

          Greetings,

          Ron.

    • Richard on June 5, 2012 at 20:55

      Hi Gerard,

Great project, the watch looks really tasty with the brown and gold accents.
The hight is making it very comfy to wear I guess.

The silver bezel is the best choice IMHO.

      Cheers,

      Richard.

  5. Cory on June 2, 2012 at 21:38

What grade of movement will the ETA 2428?

  6. Frenk on June 5, 2012 at 10:17

    Hi Gerard,

will a steel bracelet also be available (as an option?)
I once had a combat sub.. lug width is 22mm isn’t it?

    thanks and keep us posted!

    regards,

  7. EdGould on June 6, 2012 at 15:56

I like this very much and would definitely consider buying one but would definitely think it is a plus to have an option for a bracelet as well, otherwise I can not find much to fault. Nice work, would love to know if when this does become available!

  8. Gerard Nijenbrinks on June 13, 2012 at 15:49

So it will be the version with stainless steel bezel; it wasn’t a difficult decision with all your feedback – thanks you all for that.

Just to answer a few of the questions her above:

    – a steel bracelet will be available as an extra as well
    – the lug width is 22 mm
    – it looks like we will have the fist pieces available in July

Ordering will be possible for most regions of the world through http://www.in2watches.com. Probably through a special ordering page (if we manage in time), or otherwise just by email.

    • Florian on June 28, 2012 at 19:12

      • Gerard Nijenbrinks on June 29, 2012 at 11:17

        Hi Florian,

Yes, the first batch is being produced at the moment, and I expect the first watches to arrive here in The Netherlands next month.

The set price (watch with vintage brown leather strap, black rubber strap, strap changing tool, all supplied in a larger type box) will be € 785,= as far as I can see now.

A stainless steel bracelet will be available as an extra on request for € 150,=.

        Best regards,

        Gerard
