Today, May 13th 2012, one of the Antiquorum’s ‘Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces’ auctions was held in Geneva. This one had my exceptional interest because it was ‘Featuring the 40th Anniversary of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak’. At first I was a little bit disappointed that, at what seemed to be an important ’40th anniversary of the Royal Oak’ auction, only four real originals (i.e. 5402ST’s) were offered. Probably they’re that scarce or probably nobody wants to sell them at this point. There was only one 15002ST (with a salmon colored dial) and only one 14802BA which thus was in yellow gold. No 15202′s were offered at all. Well anyhow, the real fun of this ‘Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces’ auction started at lot number 408 with a 1972 5402ST with – as was said – the earliest serial number ever to be offered at auction. The watch bears the lucky number A88, so this must be a collectors dream. It was hammered (including buyers premium) at CHF 40.000,= (approximately € 33.300,= or US$ 43.000,=); not bad at all, however we’ve seen higher prices in the nearby past. Two other 5402ST’s – serial numbers A1876 and B1150 dating from 1974 [...]

One of the smallest wrist watch gear train wheels is belonging to the Bulova Accutron. It’s said that this little wheel – which is the one always wears out in your Accutron – has 300 teeth. It’s impossible to imagine how that wheel was produced, and so at the moment it’s one of the most sought after spare parts for this watch as they aren’t produced anymore for quite some time now. I took some other shots, which include the original packaging this wheel comes in. Specially produced to hold it, and not to damage it during transport. You’ll find the pictures here: Accutron wheel gallery

That was something else than you thought when reading the title, isn’t it ;-) Except good carnivore food, the result was a marvelous collection of Patek Philippe Nautilus’, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak’s and the odd IWC Ingenieur clearly peeking out in the picture above.
In co-operation with Glycine, www.in2watches.com is currently working on a world-exclusive edition of the very attractive and popular Combat SUB model. The matte black dial is printed with rose gold index lines, name and applied logo – just as the minute lines and numerals on the uni-directional turning bezel. This classy sports watch houses a reliable 25 jewels ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, and of course has a screw down crown. The stainless steel case of the watch measures 42 mm, is almost 11 mm thick and is pressure proof up to 20 bar (200 meter). The watch has a flat scratch proof sapphire crystal and is issued with a brown raw calf leather strap as well as with a black nylon NATO-type of strap. A strap changing tool completes the set. The above picture is only a computer composition drawing; I can’t wait to get the first real ones in… ;-)

Frank Geelen of Monochrome published a wonderful review of the Audemars Piguet Millenary Star Wheel which I have currently for sale in my shop. From this highly exclusive rose gold version of the Millenary Star Wheel AP only made 75 pieces to celebrate their 125th anniversary in 2000. A further 50 in yellow gold and 125 in stainless steel were produced at the same time as well. The Star Wheel construction is very interesting in it’s construction, which operating is beautiful visible in this watch. Besides this, it’s a very readable way of indicating the time without using regular hands. Unfortunately with this Millenary Star Wheel it was the last time Audemars Piguet used this construction in a wrist watch. I have this watch, of course including the original box, booklet, certificate and in an extreme well maintained condition, available for sale @ € 16.900,= (plus S&I if applicable). Click at the following link to read the full review and have a look at all the beautiful pictures on www.monochrome.nl

In June 1997 Cartier celebrated their 150th anniversary with a very special Pasha, the reference W3102255. This anniversary Pasha in stainless steel was produced in a limited run of only 1847 (the year of Cartiers foundation) pieces. The diameter of the case is 38 mm and the crown was topped with a red ruby in stead of a blue sapphire. Another nice feature was the removable grid. I’m offering number 1414 for sale for a price of € 3.300,= (approx US$ 4,650.=) plus S&I. The watch is, as you can see at the pictures, in excellent and almost like new condition and complete with it’s original box and booklet.
During this years (2012) Baselworld fair of course our(*) Schnitzel diner party in Restaurant Hahn took part again. This prove to be the perfect occasion to organize the Timezone Watch of the Year 2011 award ceremony! (*)our = a bunch of bloggers, journalists and mainly independent watch makers. Bart and Tim Grönefeld, both big time Schnitzel lovers and so being hard core part of this underground and unorganized dinner, would be there for sure. Timezone’s William Massena brought the goblet (although named it differently), and all ingredients for a wonderful evening were present. The results can be seen in two picture gallery’s. The first one being regular pictures in color, the second one being old fashioned black and white pictures shot in fixed focal length of 50 mm. Enjoy!
